CAPUCHIN MONKEY (3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS)

DAY 1

IQUITOS-AMAZONAS-QUEBRADA TAPIRILLO

​

  • 09:00 Departure from Iquitos to the village of San Joaquin de Omaguas on the banks of the majestic Amazon River (departure time according to flight itinerary).

​

  • 10:30 Arrival at the Emerald Forest Expeditions facilities on the shores of the grand Amazon River. Welcome toast and accommodation.

​

  • 11:30 Safety talk and geographical orientation.

​

  • 12:30 Lunch.

​

  • 14:30 Boat excursion to explore the Amazon River and a tributary called Quebrada Tapirillo where we will observe the impressive pink and gray dolphins, as well as multiple species of Amazon birds, iguanas, and the famous forest sloths in their natural habitat.

​

  • 18:00 Return to base camp.

​

  • 19:00 Dinner.

​

  • 20:00 Observation of the constellations as well as the history of some of our most emblematic myths of the Peruvian Amazon.

DAY 2

AMAZON-YANAYACU RIVER RESERVE-SAN JUAN COMMUNITY
 

  • 07:00 Breakfast.

​

  • 08:00 We get ready to explore the beautiful reserve of the Yanayacu River (lunch in the field). On this wonderful day inside the Yanayacu River Reserve we will observe monkeys of different species like the famous Capuchin monkey as well as toucans, macaws, caiman and much more. On the return, we will visit the only community of the Kukama in the reserve, San Juan de Yanayacu, where we will learn about life in the jungle as well as the culture and local beliefs.

  • 17:30 Return to the basecamp.

​

  • 19:00 Dinner.

DAY 3

AMAZON-YARAPA RIVER CONFLUENCE.

 

  • 06:00 Breakfast.

​

  • 07:00 Expedition towards the confluence of the Amazon River, where the Marañon and Ucayali rivers come together, forming the giant of rivers, the Amazon. Continuing on, we miander toward the Yurapa River, the first tributary of the Amazon. Here we will observe monkeys, dolphins, Victoria Regias Lily Pads, and much more.

  • 12:00 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 13:00 Lunch.

​

  • 14:00 Tour the Village of San Juaquin, where will will discover the village's incredible history, geology, culture, and the invaluable geographic location of this incredible town, older than Iquitos and Nauta but nearly forgotten in time.

​

  • 15:30 Departure to Iquitos.

​

  • 17:00 Arrival in Iquitos.

*This itinerary is for those who love nature but are short on time.It is full of adventure, exploration, observation and learning. Arrival in Iquitos adjusted according to flight departure schedules. All programs are flexible.

AMAZON EXPEDITION. (4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS)

DAY 1

IQUITOS - RESCUE CENTER - SAN JOAQUIN
DE OMAGUAS - AMAZON RIVER.

  • Pick up from the airport or hotel.

​

  • 09:00 Departure from Iquitos by car to the Manatee Rescue Center. The visit to this biopark will be an introduction to the rainforest, Emerald Forest Expeditions has an alliance with the center in order to help in efforts for the preservation of Amazonian manatees.

​

  • 11:00 Arrival to the historic community of San Joaquin de Omaguas- Our base camp is located on the banks of the Amazon River in the territories of the Omaguas Amazonian peoples.

​

  • 11:15 Welcome drink and safety orientation.

​

  • 12:30 Lunch.

​

  • 15:00 Boat excursion on the Amazon River to observe pink and gray dolphins, sloths, iguanas, birds, and learn about the majestic Amazon River.

​

  • 18:00 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 19:00 Dinner.

​

  • 20:15 Tales from the Amazon by our naturalist guide (Dining Area)

DAY 2

AMAZON RIVER-YANAYACU RIVER RESERVE
-CAÑO CHINGANA
 

  • 07:00 Breakfast.

​

  • 08:15 Fishing and wildlife viewing in the Yanayacu Reserve. This morning we will explore black water lagoons in the Yanayacu River. We will fish for piranhas with traditional fishing gear and observe monkeys, wild turkeys, parrots, macaws, toucans, and more.

​

  • 12:30 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 13:00 Lunch.

​

  • 15:30 Boat expedition deep into the Yanayacu Reserve, arriving at the Chingana Creek in search of wildlife. On this exploration, we go dark to listen to the night symphony of the Amazon. We will also look for tarantulas, scorpions, night monkeys, snake constrictors such as anacondas and boa, and caiman (family of the crocodile).

  • 19:30 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 20:00 Dinner.

DAY 3

AMAZON – YANAYACU RIVER RESERVE,
YARINA LAGOON FULL DAY.

​

  • 07:00 Breakfast.

​

  • 08:00 With a lunch box, rubber boots, and machetes, we will return in our boat to the Yanayacu Reserve. This time we will venture deep inside the incredible Amazon jungle. On the way, we will see birds, monkeys, iguanas, dolphins, and look for snakes, sloths, etc. Then we will walk through the jungle for 1 hour and a half to a beautiful isolated lagoon called Yarina, full of prehistoric birds called Hoatzin. Also, we will likely see caimans, macaws, and more. We will also learn basic survival skills. After this incredible expedition, we start the way back.

​

  • 18:00 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 19:00 Enjoy a famous Peruvian Pisco Sour and snacks in the bar.

​

  • 20:00 Dinner.

DAY 4

AMAZON RIVER - VISIT TO THE VILLAGE.

​

  • 07:30 Breakfast.

​

  • 08:30 Visit to the village. We work in harmony with several communities. This morning we will visit one of the Kukama native communities to learn about life in the Amazon, idiosyncrasies, culture, and beliefs.

​

  • 12:00 Return to the lodge.

​

  • 12:30 Lunch.

​

  • 14:00 Check out - Presentation about the Amazon River by our naturalist guide in the dining area.

​

  • 15:00 Departure to Iquitos.

​

CHULLACHAQUI EXPEDITION. (5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS)

DAY 1

CHINGANA (RESERVE)

  • 08:15 Fishing and wildlife observations in the Yanayacu River (Reserve). This morning we will explore black water lagoons in the Yanayacu Reserve. We will use traditional gear to fish for piranhas while observing monkeys, wild turkeys, parrots, macaws, toucans and more.

  • 12:30 Return to the lodge.

  • 13:00 Lunch.

  • 08:00 With a box lunch, rubber boots, and machetes, we once again depart in our boat to the Yanayacu Reserve. This time we will venture inside the incredible Amazon jungle. On the way, we will see birds, monkeys, iguanas, dolphins, and look for snakes, sloths, etc. Then we will walk through the jungle for 1 hour and a half to a beautiful isolated lagoon called Yarina, full of prehistoric birds called Hoatzin, as well as, caimans, macaws, and more. Continuing on towards the Yarapa River, the first tributary of the Amazon, we will observe monkeys, dolphins, water lilies and also we will look for snakes and tree boas etc.

DAY 5

AMAZONAS- TAPIRILLO STREAM-SAN JOAQUIN DE OMAGUAS TOUR.

​

  • 06:00 Early morning bird watching along the Amazon River and Tapirillo Stream. This morning is dedicated exclusively to learning about the unique bird species of the Amazon. We might also observe dolphins, iguanas, and other wildlife.

​

  • 08:00 Breakfast at the lodge.

​

  • 09:00 Embark on a tour of San Joaquin de Omaguas. We will learn about the impressive history of this village, which is older than both Iquitos and Nauta. Discover the culture, origins, language, idiosyncrasies, geology, and invaluable importance of this area.

​

  • 11:00 Return to the camp.

​

  • 12:30 Lunch at the lodge.

​

  • 14:00 Engage in a talk on Zoopharmacognosy, discussing animal medicine in the tropics. This will provide an insight into how animals use plants and other natural substances for self-medication.

​

  • 15:30 Departure to Iquitos. Reflect on the amazing experiences and memories made during the expedition.

​

  • 17:00 Arrival in Iquitos.

​
